In Al Franken’s new book, The Truth (with jokes), the comedian/author/radio host carries on his fight against the conservatives. Franken takes on everything from the Iraq War to the Social Security “crisis.” The aim of the book is to present the actual, factual truth about all of the events covered in the book. And what Franken gives us should be enough to raise the blood pressure of any thinking, caring human being. If everything Franken says in the book is true (and he provides a litany of references to back up his research), then the Republicans have been privy to a lot of bad things. And I mean bad things. And if you think that Dick Cheney is the world’s most evil man, your mind may change after reading The Truth. Any number of right-wing collaborators could easily beat Cheney in the pure evil game. Just look up Karl Rove or Tom DeLay sometime. You’ll see what I mean.
I guess the only criticism I can make about a book like this is that, it’s a book with an agenda. Even though, the agenda is obvious, and Franken makes no apologies. It is still a book designed to present facts, and while all of the information is likely to be valid, it should be understood that Franken has a bias, and it’s likely that his bias affects the outcome of the work. And I guess the only way to try and balance things out would be to read a book by Rush Limbaugh or Bill O’Reilly. And there’s very little chance of me doing that.
I would urge anyone who feels unsure (or apathetic) towards the current American political climate to read this book. The material will give you a lot to consider. If you’re someone who is already on the liberal side, then you will likely enjoy this book just because it’ll reinforce all of the things you already feel about the evil-doers (I mean “conservatives”). And of course, if you’re Ann Coulter, then you should read The Truth just so you’ll have something to base your next book on.
It could be called something like “How To Lie To A Liberal (and Everyone Else [If You Must... And Of Course You Must!]).”

This book was more scary than the whole entire bunch of Vampire books I was reading! It was really interesting, and made me want to read his “Lies” book. Also made me scared for humanity in general. I suspected that there really were people that self-centered and evil in our government, but, before I read the book, I figured I was just being cynical. Not so, it seems!
